Title: Techno Granny, Santa Claus Websites to Entertain the Kids
Time: 12/17/2012 11:30 AM EST
Episode Notes: In deciding what to do today special for the holidays I asked Nanno Granny Jo Ann Forrester what she would do this AM, well I got sidetracked by her idea. She asked me if Santa Claus had a website, well it turns out that there is one for Santa Claus and Kris Kringle and the North Pole and I found the most user friendly one that you don't have to register to use and blew right past the 10 AM start time of my show because I was having so much fun on it. Spent an hour on it and then the next hour on a couple of sites that wanted me to create an account for myself and then wouldn't let me do anything unless I created an account for my kids with a user name and email attached. Come on, it shouldn't be that hard to reach Santa Claus, Kris Kringle or the North Pole, but I found out how to do it without registering.
Listen in for lot of fun for your kids over the next week of Christmas preparations. Might be a better babysitter than video games, cartoons or Christmas videos. Hear bout he Elf Easy Santa Claus site that a four year old can use, if you trust them with your computer or your I Pad in "Santa Claus Websites to Entertain the Kids over the Holidays." And if you want to sign up your kids with a fake email and user name, we'll tell you about those sites too.

This is directly from the site that made me late for the TechoGrannyShow.

SANTA CLAUS WELCOMES YOU TO CLAUS.COM.http://www.claus.com/pix/tm.gif
Santa Claus is really excited you've come to visit, and he has the North Pole Village full of fun things to do for both kids and parents, including lots of new things this year. Check your Naughty or Nice rating. Choose your very own Elf Buddy. Play games in Elf School. Print your Honorary Elf Diploma. Sing along with new original Christmas songs. Try funny holiday recipes. Visit the amazing Toy Workshop. Send E-mail to Santa Claus. Follow Santa Claus in his sleigh on Christmas Eve. See how many cookies Santa Claus eats on his trip. Wonderful illustrations and a creative family experience. CLAUS.COM is one of the top-rated Santa Claus websites and is known around the world.

Santa Claus Naughty or Nice ArchivesTM
Sneak a peek at your rating on Santa's Naughty or Nice List! And find out the Top Ten Ways to make the Naughty List, as well as the Top Ten Ways to make the Nice List. Remember, Santa Claus is watching!
Kids put their first name in here and it takes them to Nice-ometer which gives them a generic rating of things they may have done and the good things they should keep up.
There is also Sugar Plum Mary’s Christmas Party where kids can plan a Christmas party for friends complete with recipes they can make themselves.
Sugarplum Mary's Christmas PartyTM
Sugarplum is having a party and youre invited. Its the place to be for fun party invitations, treats, and crafts.
Alabaster Snowball
Toy Workshop
Check out the only toy-making machine of its kind in the world, The Magnetic-Kinetic Toy Hulla-BalluTM! Santa Claus has it set up so you can even have it make toys you select! Also, choose your very own Elf Buddies and print out their pictures.
Here kids can see the Toy Making Machine and also Choose an Elf Buddy and get emails from them (come on whose kids have emails?)  Some of the names of the elves:  Alabaster snowball

The art and animation are amazing and will keep both children and adults entertained.
Santa Claus House
Santa's House is packed with fun! You can see THE SANTA SHOWTM, a funny news show about what Santa Claus does when he's not in the workshop. The Santa Claus Elf Hall of Fame is also in the house. It's a whole area devoted to the most famous elves and how they came to be in the Elf Hall of FameTM. Great stories! The traditions section has information on the holidays, and you can meet Santa's dog, Cider. There is also a Crafty Crafts area for the whole family.

My personal favorite from Santa’s House is the Elf Show

There is just too much to look at.  Assuming you have the time or allow your kids to use your I pad, you can entertain them for hours while you bake, clean, wrap presents and in general tear your hair out with holiday stress.  Here are some other places on the site you can visit.

Daily news from the North Pole, what else?
Recipes for mom
Don’t have time to sing with the kids.  Here are some original songs that your kids can sing along with.

Now there is also KrisKringle.com
Opens up with music but not as kidsy on opening.
This seems to be more commercial
When I went to Reindeer on a roof, I needed a code???????

Has a lot of great features like sending a letter to Santa Claus but I am not crazy about setting up email accounts for kids and although this site has many wonderful amenities I am just not going through all that as a grandparent to set up this stuff for my grandchild.
But these are some of the things you can do if you want to go through the trouble of setting up an account for your kids.
·         Disco Dancing Santa
·         Print a Good Deeds Calendar
·         FREE wallpaper to download

All of these sites have to find a way to make a living, I was just personally affronted by the “direct” commercial approach of KrisKringle and North Pole, just about everything that you wanted to do needed a pass code.  However on both sites there are some delightful things you can do for free but there’s also a whole bunch right up front that require your credit card.  I also thought that these two sites needed far more parental supervision as there were places that children can put in information that you just don’t want on the internet.  Just my humble opinion as a two and a half time parent and grandparent!
But go for it, have fun and enjoy the spirit of Christmas which is really about doing things with your family, especially your kids.
