TG 5-25-09 Becoming Internet Radio Star

Introduction:

Top rated most listened to radio personality in NYC for many years. Left mid day host job last day of 2007.Since then has been creating content for online properties, and coaching emerging talent.
Also is known for her voice over work and has been the "Voice of God" for many high profile live events in NYC and on television programs. An actor, writer, producer and emcee.

Valerie runs the gamut from voice over artist to actor to speaker to writer/producer as well as theater and nightlife guru. She can be heard voicing NBC Network News Promos to the announcer on The Boomer Esiason Show on MSG to the Voice of God on this year's Tony Preview special on CBS.

She is also the Voice of God for Broadway On Broadway as well as numerous live events including - The NY Emmy Awards, The Point Foundation, The Trevor Project and Cable Positive.

As a writer, she writes a weekly nightlife column for The Three Tomatoes as well as the Italian American Network, where she also hosts her own 'Valerie' channel, interviewing compelling personalities.

In addition, she is an interviewer and host for Tonyawards.com and MyBroadway.com.

As an actress, previous stage credits include the acclaimed Off-Broadway play, 'Spalding Gray: Stories Left to Tell' at The Minetta Lane Theatre, 'Guest speller' for Broadway's 'The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,' and 'The Vagina Monologues', co-starring Ally Sheedy and Kathryn Erbe.

The play she co-wrote and performs in, currently titled, 'Spit it Out!' is being readied for an off-Broadway run later this year.

Valerie is a frequent speaker, host and emcee for various corporate events and charitable causes.

The course description is:

Valerie Smaldone
President, Two Sides of a Coin

Talking points:
1. Discuss my background in media...what I did, what my experience was, what I am doing now.
2. Adding talent coach to my resume.
3. What compelled me to teach this course at the School of Visual Arts.
4. How I am spreading the word.

Here you go....
1. The most important thing you can do during an interview is LISTEN. Do not ask a question and start looking through your notes for the next one.
Great questions are born from conversation.
2. No matter what the delivery method, the host of a show must connect with his/her audience. I call it creating an "emotional bridge" from your side of the radio (or computer) to what is being delivered to someone's ears.
3. Use descriptive words when speaking. Creating pictures for listeners is a great way for them to be drawn into the topic or conversation and lasts longer in their memory.
